Sports Injuries

After sports injuries, the earlier you seek treatment the better the outcome. NUmoves physiotherapy in Newcastle has clients participate in all kinds of sport. We see lots of soccer and rugby injuries, but we also see clients with injuries from basketball, netball, baseball, athletics, CrossFit and martial arts. Our university clubs, NU Sport swimmers, recreational runners and marathon runners come with their own injury experiences. Physiotherapy provides a diagnosis and management plan to help you recover better and return to sport as safely and quickly as possible.

A common source of sports injuries is ‘training error’ which is increasing exercise too much, too quickly. Another source of injury can be technique which refers to the way you move during each exercise. Our physios can work with you to develop a training program and to show you proper technique and movement. A correct balance between being challenged in your training, maintaining good technique, and avoiding training errors by good planning. The more you know your body, the less likely injury will occur. This means train at a level of load suited to your body; gradually increase the level of exercise over several weeks; listen and adjust to pain especially if it is in a joint or the spine; and use mirrors to watch how you perform a gym exercise to ensure the technique is correct. This may be simple advice but it works if you want to reduce the chance of injury.

We have been educating local sports trainers and physio students with the Sports Medicine Australia Level 1 sports trainers course for the past 15 years. Its all about getting good advice early with sports injuries which includes on the field when they happen.
